We
will be holding a couple of Chukar Championships every year.
We had our 1st
annual Chukar Championship on September 3rd 2005 held at
the Ringneck Ranch in Hanover, Michigan. Everything went real well,
especially considering that this was our first attempt. We had a
wonderful cool morning with the heat rising into the mid 80’s in the
afternoon. The dew from the grass kept the dogs nice and cool in
the early part of the day and tubs were set out for the late
afternoon runs.
This year’s winners
were Gordy Bigelow and his son (also named Gordy) with their German
Wirehaired Pointer named Nina taking 1st place. 2nd
place went to Larry Davis and Tom Maddox with Larry’s setter named
Benny. 3rd place went to Eric and Mark Griffiths who ran
their father’s dog Gus (another nice English Setter).
We want to thank
everybody who contributed to this special outing:
-
John Griffiths –
for getting this whole ordeal put together for smooth operation.
-
Deb Griffiths and
Shirley Koepke – for cooking up the vittles (super spread!!)
-
Ron Sweet and his
wife (owners of Ringneck Ranch) – for hosting this event and for
Ron planting the birds for each brace.
-
Dean Broda – for
being our camera man and assistant judge on every brace.
-
John Griffiths,
Larry Davis, and Bob Owens – for sharing in the judging.
-
Cia Owens – for
the tasty Tubby’s subs.
